Raising the Roof: a 20/20 Vision

In 1980 this church was blessed with the completion of the Family Life Center. In those 37 years of operation the FLC has not only been used by this church and its members but by many organizations and members of the community for events from birthday parties to Kids For Christ. Time and weather have taken its toll on the building bringing several major maintenance issues to our attention. First and foremost is the need for a new roof. Water damage is apparent in the interior of the building from years of roof leaks. The leaks have to be fixed, we can't patch over any more patches. We can't put it off any longer- we have to put a new roof on the building. To accomplish this the skylights will be removed and the holes covered with metal. A Hydro Stop seamless roof system will be installed. This comes with a 15 year warranty. Work will take 1 week to complete. We want the work to be done the last of August. The total cost of the roof will be $40,000. The church has $20,000 in maintenance funds right now. We need to raise $20,000 more. We want to be open and honest with the congregation. Plans are to have a first day of giving on June 4 with a pot luck dinner to follow the service. More information will be forthcoming in the next couple of weeks. We need each of you to be in prayer how you can help to financially support this vision. Thank you.

Q&A

What is "Raising the Roof: a 20/20 Vision"? "Raising the Roof: A 20/20 Vision" is a capital campaign to raise the necessary funds to repair the roof of our Family Life Center building, which has been in need of major repairs for several years. Why are we repairing the Family Life Center roof?

In 1980 this church was blessed with the completion of the Family Life

Center. In those 37 years of operation, the FLC has not only been used by

this church and its members but by many organizations and members of the

community for events including rollerskating, the Health Fair and Kids For Christ.

Time and weather have taken their toll on the building, bringing several major

maintenance issues to our attention. First and foremost is the need for a

new roof. Water damage is apparent in the interior of the building from

years of roof leaks. The leaks have to be fixed–we can't patch over any

more patches; we can't put it off any longer, we have to put a new roof on

the building. Our goal is to ensure that we will continue to make disciples of Jesus and transform our community through the use of the FLC for years to come.

How much will the repairs cost? The total project cost is estimated to be $40,000, including parts and labor. Do we have any money to pay for the repairs to the roof? There are currently $20,000 available designated funds in the church's bank account that can be used to pay for the necessary repairs to the roof. How will we come up with the rest of the money needed to pay for the repairs? Our vision is to raise $20,000 by the end of August. This will be initiated via a Capital program. Giving and pledges will begin with a special "Raising the Roof" Sunday on June 4, 2017. We will announce the amount initially raised during a church-wide luncheon to follow worship and Sunday School. What is a capital program and how does it work? A capital program is a periodic request for additional monies to complete special projects. It is initiated based on the needs identified by the Church. The timeline for collecting the funds for our initial project is roughly three months. How can I give financially to this capital program? You can make a one-time special contribution at any time by writing a check to the church and putting in the memo line "Raising the Roof." You can also make a pledge to give your gift over a period of time between June 4 and August 27. Pledge cards will be provided on "Commitment Sunday," June 4. May I give my commitment once a week, once a month, or once a year? You can make your gift in any way that works best for your household budget. Once you make your commitment you can give weekly, monthly, or yearly. August is the end of phase one. There are still other repairs that need to be taken care of, so as funds come in they can be done. What other repairs need to be done? The Heating and Air Conditioning will be the next big cost, as well as the skating floor needs repair due to water damage, new appliances in the kitchen, painting inside and other general maintenance. Can my pledge amount change? Yes. If your circumstances change significantly, then your pledge should also change. When do I make my initial pledge/gift? Commitment Sunday is June 4. There will be an opportunity to make pledges and gifts during the 9 AM Worship Gathering. How will the roof be repaired? We contacted a well-known, local roofing contractor, Bar-B Roofing. The system we will have installed is called "HydroStop." It is a coating that is a waterproofing system with a 15-year warranty. It is energy efficient because of reflecting the heat. This system is seamless, can be walked on, and in 15 years can be renewed by just putting on couple more coats over the existing roof at a fraction of the cost. When will repairs start, and how long will it take? We are planning to have the roof done by the end of August. It will take about a week to do the job. We want to have the roof finished before football season begins so we can have "Fifth-Quarter" event for the youth. In addition to my gift/pledge, what else can I do to ensure the success of the capital program? Pray for the ministry of our church, pray for God's direction as you seek God's will for your participation in giving to this campaign. Have an attitude of joy and gratitude for the opportunities that God has given us to minister to this community.

Purpose Statement

Where we have been We have been a mission and outreach church for the community since 1877.

Where we are now The Family Life Center needs some major repairs, beginning with the roof. The leaks in the roof have already damaged the skating floor which now also requires maintenance. If we want to continue to utilize the building for our outreach ministries the roof needs to be fixed before more damage is done.

Our vision The first big project is to repair the roof, so that we can open up the Family Life Center to the community for things like Fifth Quarter, Quarterly Community Dinners, Skate Night, Basketball, Kids for Christ, Bible study, small groups, and so on. We want to provide the safest possible facility for all to use. Again, this is the first phase, there is still more work that needs to be done. The HVAC is old and needs to be replaced, The skating floor needs repair, interior walls need painting, and general maintenance needs to be performed. As can be seen, properly maintaining God's gifts is an ongoing project. Our community needs a safe place to gather and have fellowship.

Our Financial Plan The roof repair project is estimated to cost approximately $40,000.00. We have designated funds in the bank to cover $20,000.00, but we will need some financial assistance to meet the additional costs. With God's help, we can do this. We plan to start our giving campaign June 4, 2017, with the idea that we will have funds available by mid-August so that we can schedule the repair for late summer. After phase one is completed then the other phases will be taken care of as funds become available.
